Project Launch: 9-8-20

With this World Connect grant, the Pazesa Horticultural Community will establish a fruit tree orchard (orange, lemon, mango, avocado) on its own land where it can train local farmers on improved and climate-smart agricultural techniques. The grant will fund a first cohort of 25 trainees, an initial supply of seeds, a solar pump for a community borehole which will provide water for the orchard and individuals' farms. Pazesa will use the orchard to generate organizational revenue, from selling seeds locally and selling fruit trees, and it anticipates earning an average monthly revenue of K8,000, against an average monthly expenditure of K2,000, for an average monthly profit of K6,000. The goal is for trainees to establish their own personal orchards, which they can use to earn income and increase food security for their families. The 25 Trainees will be responsible for training an additional 75 farmers/families in the area as part of a pass-on obligation for their participation in the project.
