Smallholder Alliance for Rice Development in Torbeck (SMARD)
Project Launch: 8-23-19
Torbek, Haiti is a rural, agricultural community with about 12,000 households. Due to over-exploitation of the land and limited resources, farmers struggle with poor crop yields. Réseau des Agriculteurs de Torbeck, a community-based organization made up of 8 different farmers associations, aims to provide technical support for rice farmers in the community. With this grant, farmers in the community will have the resources to maintain existing irrigation canals and construct new ones. They will also have access to tillers and fertilizer which will improve the quality of their crop yields, increase income, and improve families' financial stability.
