Improving Imani Beekeeping Cooperative's Bee Product Value Addition
Project Launch: 11-19-24
The Improving IMANI Beekeeping Cooperative’s Bee Product Value Addition project seeks to enhance honey production, processing, and income generation for the cooperative members in Kageyo Cell, Rwanda. The initiative, led by the IMANI Beekeeping Cooperative, which comprises 15 members (73% women), focuses on equipping members with modern beekeeping tools, training, and environmentally sustainable practices. With a grant of $4,576.64 from World Connect and a coinvestment of $2,435.04 from the community, the project will fund Langstroth hives, honey extractors, queen excluders, and other essential equipment while promoting biodiversity conservation through tree planting. By improving hive management and honey processing quality, the project aims to increase cooperative revenue, empower the women economically, and protect the local ecosystem near Akagera National Park. Sustainability will be achieved through reinvested profits, capacity building, and strengthened market linkages.
