HelpMum - Renovating maternity home to HelpMum Digital Health Cafe and Providing Digital Tools to Traditional Birth Attendants
Project Launch: 10-19-21
According to UNICEF “Every single day, Nigeria loses about 2,300 children under five and 145 women of childbearing age. This makes Nigeria the second largest contributor to the under–five and maternal mortality rate in the world.” Every 10 minutes, one woman dies on account of pregnancy or childbirth in Nigeria. The Help Mum project aims to address this challenge in Ibadan, Nigeria, more specifically in the Akinyele community. This rural community is susceptible to infant and maternal mortality, due to the lack of clean & hygienic health facilities as well as the lack of maternal health knowledge amongst the traditional birth attendants. Help Mum's goal is to eradicate infant and maternal mortality through the distribution of affordable Clean Birth kits to pregnant women in deprived and underserved communities and registering mothers on their vaccination tracking system. Help Mum is increasing their capacity through this project by renovating a Condemned Maternity Clinic in the Akinyele community into a HelpMum Digital Health Cafe and empowering 30 Traditional Birth Attendant with HelpMum's Free Mobile Tablet. HelpMum will address the underlying lack of access to information & education to traditional birth attendant , via digital tutorials called HelpMum E-learning Platform which provides short Health video tutorials on general clean and safe delivery practices in their own indigenous language.
