Flex Out Bedford-Stuyvesant
Project Launch: 11-15-24
The Flex Dance Program (FDP) is a youth-serving nonprofit dedicated to the idea that artistic expression leads to transformative growth. FDP provides dance and mentoring services to justice-involved youth in New York City, including opportunities to tell their unique stories through dance, opportunities to perform, and opportunities to join their team as Youth Ambassadors. The Flex Out Bedford Stuyvesant Project will provide free dance mentoring services to Brooklyn youth at their studio in Bedford-Stuyvesant. With nearly 500,000 youth detained yearly in the US, FDP hopes to curb recidivism and allow their students to develop in a supportive environment with youth from similar circumstances. FDP is committed to helping students improve communication skills and build self-esteem by transforming physical energy into positive, non-verbal self-expression that offers an alternative to conflict.
