COVID-19: Masks and Gardens
Project Launch: 5-20-20
With this World Connect grant, a local organization called Durian will launch the production of face masks and promote community gardening for increased food security. An existing women’s sewing group will procure materials to sew and distribute 1,300 face masks in their community. The project will also support the installation of 24 backyard gardens, each of which will provide nutritious food for surrounding households and serve as models for other community members to replicate on their land. With the country on lockdown and many people unable to work, this food security support will be critical, especially for the poorest households. This project will complement work Durian is already doing to educate community members about COVID-19 and establish community handwashing stations.
