Comadres Promotoras Project
Project Launch: 11-15-24
The Undocumented Women's Fund (UWF) is a feminist organization that seeks to build community care, collective learning, and an organizing network to meet the needs of Latina immigrant women in NYC. The Comadres Promotoras Project will train a group of experienced, long-time immigrant women as peer-to-peer educators, resource navigators, and community organizers, to work with other, more recent immigrant women. This project aims to weave a trans-generational knowledge and care network that welcomes and supports new leaders from within the community; that develops tools and systems to identify and address basic needs; and that fosters organizing strategies to fight for the rights of our newest neighbors. Our project builds on the work of the Undocumented Women’s Fund with recent arrivals, particularly through our “care circles”, which have become a space not only for the sharing of experiences, knowledge and resources, but also for collective action and community involvement.
