SMALL SCALE PIG FARMING FOR VULNERABLE RURAL HOUSEHOLDS WITH CHILDREN WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES

This project seeks to support five groups of about 110 parents of children with disabilities to start pig farming in Nyamata and Musenyi sectors of Bugesera district so that they can earn income to meet the basic needs of their children with disabilities as well as support their families other needs. Five mature pigs will be purchased with grant funds and each group will select a member who will be responsible for taking care of the pig on behalf of all group members. A pig pen will be constructed at the members home and the member will take care of the pig. once the pig gives birth, piglets will be distributed to all other members of the group so that they can also raise at their individual homes and get the benefits of pig farming such as manure and income from sale of offsprings.
