Malem Thialene Water Tower Maintenance for Continued WASH
Project Launch: 9-12-16
This project will lead to the installation of a new motor at the Malem Thialene water tower, which provides water access to community members in Malem Thialene, Malem Theireigne, and Malem Qati. The current motor malfunctions on a regular basis, resulting in frequent water shortages and expensive repairs. Through this project, the local community-led water committee will participate in financial management workshops to learn how to better budget and plan for future maintenance costs. In addition to the new motor, piping will be extended to include households that live on the outskirts of the three communities, increasing water access to even more families.
Progress Update: 10/4/2016
The community purchased the motor after making a final decision on the length for the machine's warranty they would acquire (one year). Water fees have been adjusted to cover the community's contribution to the project and construction and installation will be important next steps.
