Empowering Women Economically
Project Launch: 8-29-19
With this World Connect grant, the Tingathe Women's Group in Mbambawa, Malawi will establish a bakery. This group of 34 widows and single mothers plans to work in clusters each week to produce and sell bread, doughnuts, dinner rolls, and other popular baked goods. The bakery will sell their goods to members of the community and students at the Mwimba College of Agriculture. Based on the existing market, they expect to generate K50,000 per week in sales. The women plan to reinvest some of their profits into baking ovens, ingredients, and a physical structure for the bakery. Additionally, they plan to use this income to support their childrens' education and to invest in assets such as bicycles and goats.
