Wassadou Hospital Garden
Project Launch: 7-26-17
Wassadou Medical Center is a life-saving resource for 8,000 patients in rural Senegal. Located between Tamabcounda and Kedougou, the center provides healthcare services to an area of the country that experiences some of the highest rates of malarial infection in the world. To address issues of undernutrition that surface in the region, this project proposes the creation of a market garden at medical center. With provision of two full-time garden staff and administrative oversight to ensure the smooth daily operation of the garden, the medical center will be able to produce healthy, nutritious food and will also obtain the ability to earn money from the sale of produce to address its expenses. The project will facilitate water access for this one hectare produce garden, guaranteeing year-round production of vegetables for consumption and sale in spite of the province's hot semiarid climate.
