Collection and Recycling of Household Waste in Bettenty
Project Launch: 11-16-18
It is very complex to keep an island environment clean and Bettenty is facing a serious situation as waste builds up in public places and in surrounding waters. The crisis has reached the point where even houses have become dumps because the population no longer knows how to cope with the accumulation of garbage. Years of discarding waste into the nearby sea have clogged waterways and smothered wildlife. The village faces a looming public health problem that is going to get worse by the day if nothing is done. Preventable illnesses are frequently diagnosed in young children with many cases connected to the contaminated local environment. Additionally, pollution is a serious detriment to local business and economic prosperity. This project seeks to respond to this situation. The overall objective is to contribute to the preservation of the marine ecosystem of the Bettenty Islands by combatting the unsanitary conditions and the buildup of household waste. This will be accomplished through the regular collection of household waste.
