Wayland High School
Wayland High School has been a consistent parter in our Kids Connect Program over the years. For this school year, the students decided to support Healthy Bodies, Active Minds, which will build a sport court and implement malaria, HIV/AIDS and sexual health workshops at a high school in Rwanda. Over the course of the school year, the Wayland students organized a raffle ticket fundraiser. They sold tickets outside local stores on the weekend, in an effort to raise funds and awareness to issues facing youth in Rwanda. The raffle winners were picked on March 1, 2016, and the participants were awarded with various prizes such as gift certificates to local businesses. Through their efforts, the students raised $500.
"Our group is full of energetic and athletic teenagers, so we wanted to encourage that in other students as well. We chose to do a raffle fundraiser to raise money to support the sports court. Throughout the past couple of months we have been standing outside of grocery stores, walking around neighborhoods and selling to our parents, friends, and teachers. In total we raised $500 and are super excited to donate it to the project!" - Julia Nuss, Club Leader
