Rural Women Empowerment for Equitable Development is a project takinfg place in the dumbu village in North east Nigeria.Dumbu is a swampy village with a river bank that flows and connects to Lano village. The land is flat with some parts occupied by forests where community members farm, hunt and cut firewood from. There is an estimated number of 1000 households and in each household there are about three to four wives with each having three to four children belonging to one man. Due to lack of finances and resoutces the Dumbu village is highly affected by period poverty and many girls cannot afford pads. Rural Women Empowerment for Equitable Development aims to teach 20 girls and women how to make reusable pads, Vaseline, and liquid soap. The project team will market and sell the products in the local market and the revenue from sales during the project will be saved, to provide the girls and women with startup kits when they graduate from the training after three months.
